Do IC trains have first class?
The ultra-modern
IC trains are often older, slightly less comfortable long-distance trains. They are also a bit slower and make stops in towns that ICE trains skip.
The only real difference is the seating comfort, see the photos on this page, but in first class food & drink orders are taken by a steward at your seat so you don't have to go to the restaurant car yourself, a useful service.
Facilities may differ per train and route. Most ICE trains offer breakfast/lunch or dinner menus with many German specialties as well as snacks and a wide selection of beverages. In 1st class staff will serve food/drink to your seat.
Most train companies offer First Class accommodation on some or all of their routes. But they may also have some routes that are Standard Class only. Check with your train company.
The Intercity is intended for medium- and long-distance routes and only stops at the major stations along the route. It is a comfortable train, with facilities geared towards longer journeys, so that you can travel in comfort. All of our Intercity trains have toilets on board and are equipped with quiet zones.
There are many amenities available on Intercity Trains, such as WiFi, toilets, and quiet areas where travelers can make use of.
(1) ICE trains – all of which travel on a high speed line for at least part of a journey. There are now five different types of ICE train which operate on different routes within Germany. (2) IC trains – long distance express trains that tend to be slower than ICE trains because they rarely use the high speed lines.
Upgrading to First Class will invariably treat you to a larger, plusher seat with more arm and legroom - perfect for longer journeys! It is also worth remembering that on many types of trains in Europe, First Class will have different seating configurations.
First Class tickets offer you compliementary food and drink (including an alchoholic tipple from 11:30am (when available). We serve three menus depending on the train you are travelling on, but our drinks are always the same.
Do IC trains have WiFi?
Which trains offer wifi? Wifi is available on board all of our ICE trains, on some of our IC trains and on selected regional trains.
Power sockets, WiFi & toilets
There are power sockets at all seats in both classes. IC trains are being fitted with WiFi, although not all cars have it yet.
You may bring your own food and beverages onboard for consumption at your seat or private Sleeping Car accommodations. However, you can only consume food and beverages purchased in Dining and Lounge Cars in those cars. Personal food and beverages are allowed in the upper level of Superliner Sightseer Lounges.
You can also check the timetable. If it has First Class, you'll see a little '1' symbol above the train.

Please note all LNER services travel in the same formation with first class being at the south end (or London end as it may be referred to) of the train and standard class at the north end of the train*.

The contents don't get flushed into a tank - they get dropped on to the track. And that's particularly unpleasant at a station.
If you see the “WC” sign, which stands for “Wasserklosett” (water closet), it means you'll find a proper toilet.

Can you drink on Belgian trains?
Moreover, many Belgium trains have a buffet car where you can purchase beverages and snacks on the go. It is actually allowed to bring alcoholic drinks onboard Belgium trains too, but the majority of trains have particular restrictions, allowing passengers to bring only one bottle of wine or a couple of beer cans.
InterCity (IC): IC trains connect Belgium's large cities. These trains only stop at the biggest train stations and sometimes cross international borders.
Note: If you want to use an ICE train with your IC/EC ticket, you will need to buy an upgrade. The price of the upgrade is equal to the difference between the IC/EC fare and the ICE fare for the route of your ticket.
