OnePlus 10R: here's everything we know so far (1)

OnePlus seems to be in a different mood altogether this year. Since January, the company has suddenly decided to flood the market with OnePlus devices and has been hosting a launch event every month.

While users would love to have more options to choose from, OnePlus’s decision to alter the flagship number series has only confused most.

That being said, we’ve come across a handful of unreleased OnePlus devices which could be released in due course of time. One such device has been often referenced as the OnePlus 10R and is said to come equipped with flagship-grade specifications.

Recent reports even hinted that the phone might be launched under a new moniker called OnePlus Ace while the internal specifications of the upcoming phone are way too similar to the upcoming Realme GT Neo 3. If we try connecting the dots and believe what little we’ve seen, it seems that the brand synergy between Oppo, Realme, and OnePlus is indeed working in perfect sync.

OnePlus 10R: cut to the chase

  • What is it? Successor to OnePlus 9R
  • When is it out? Probably April 28
  • How much will it cost? Expect a mid-range price

OnePlus 10R India release date and price

OnePlus has announced that it will host a launch event on April 28 where it will introduce a couple of phones and a pair of earbuds. While the company hasn’t revealed if the OnePlus 10R will be unveiled during this event, various rumours suggest that OnePlus might introduce the OnePlus 10R along with the OnePlus Nord 2CE Lite and Nord buds at this event.

The phone is expected to be a successor to the OnePlus 9R which was launched last year. However, in January the company also launched the OnePlus 9RT in India – which is ideally supposed to succeed the OnePlus 9R.

Regardless, looking at the lineup and the specifications, the phone could be priced starting at Rs. 48,999 sitting just above the OnePlus 9RT.

Since this is a global launch and the phone hasn’t been launched anywhere until now, we do not have any reference point, however, we do expect the phone to be slightly costlier than the OnePlus 9RT. For the sake of reference, the Realme GT Neo 3 starts at CNY 2299 for the base variant in China.

Design and Display

There is no prize for guessing that the OnePlus 10R will carry the regular OnePlus design language that we’re so used to seeing. However, the camera module placement would be similar to what we’ve seen on GT Neo 3.

The phone is expected to come with a triple camera setup at the back. The larger sensor will be housed up top with an LED flash beside it. A couple of additional sensors sitting right below it. These sensors will be housed in a rectangular camera island.

The display is expected to be a 6.7-inch AMOLED panel with a 120 Hz refresh rate. It is expected to sport a hole-punch cutout to house a selfie camera which will be aligned centrally. While the textured rear panel may be curved from the sides offering a better grip, the display is expected to be flat.

Specifications

The OnePlus 10R is going to be the most affordable phone in the OnePlus 10 line-up, yet like all other OnePlus devices, it will have certain marquee features and will be missing some of them as well.

The phone is expected to come with a Dimensity 8100 chipset making it one of the first few devices in India to sport this new SoC from MediaTek. We might get a couple of variants based on RAM and Memory – probably up to 12GB LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of USF 3.1 storage.

The phone is said to come in two battery combinations, similar to the Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge. The first variant is expected to come with a 4,500 mAh battery with a 150W fast charge while the second variant is expected to come with a slightly bigger 5000 mAh battery but a “mere” 80W fast charge tech.

If this is indeed true, then the OnePlus 10R could be the first phone in India to ship with 150W charging tech. To put things in perspective, this is good enough to charge your phone’s battery from zero to 100 in less than 15 minutes.

One of the biggest surprises could be the fact that the OnePlus 10R could ship without the alert slider, a feature that has a separate fan base of its own. However, the fact that this is based on Realme GT Neo 3 might have been the reason.

The phone is expected to run on Oxygen OS 12 on top of Android 12 out of the box.

Talking about the camera specifications, the front camera is expected to be housed in a centrally aligned hole punch cut out. This is rumoured to be a 16MP snapper.

The rear cameras on this phone are expected to be a 50MP Sony IMX766 primary shooter with OIS and EIS. While the other sensors are expected to be an 8MP ultra-wide-angle shooter with a 119-degree FOV and a 2MP macro shooter.
