Buying at Auction

On the Day

All our auctions have viewing days during which you are welcome to browse the saleroom and inspect the ‘lots’ on offer. Take this opportunity to examine those items you are interested in. We areopen for in-room bidding and if you are unable to make our live auctions, we also accept commission and telephone bids (if arrainged in advance). If you are interested in any of the items please fill in a bidding slip with your contact information and your best and final bid and hand it to a member of staff who are also on hand to offer friendly advice. If successful you will receive an email on the afternoon of the sale with details of goods purchased.

Regular Sale Viewing times areFriday 9am – 5pm,Monday 9am – 5pm and the morning of the auction itself.

Telephone Bid | Commission Bid

If you are unable to attend the auction but would still like to bid, you may request a telephone bid or leave a commission bid. Click here to download the Commission Bidding Slip. The latter is an instruction for the auctioneer to bid on your behalf up to a limit set by you.Commission bids may be placed by telephone or email. Please speak to our office in order to have this process explained in greater detail if required.

Packing and Postage Service

We are happy to provide a packing and postage service ‘in-house’ and for a reasonable rate. All items are carefully parcelled and sent via the most appropriate postal service. This service is available for both national and international buyers so please bid with confidence.

Selling through H&H Auction Rooms

This step by step guide is designed to help answer any questions you might have about how to sell your items through our auction rooms.

Valuations

First things first, you do not need a professional valuation in order to sell through our saleroom. Weacceptgoods by appointment only. Please contact the saleroom for further information. Items left in our care are carefully checked as part of this service, so nothing is missed. Anything we deem suitable for a fine antique auction is selected and we contact the sellers individually.

However, should you wish to have your item specifically valued, thenthe following options are here for you:

Transporting Your Items to our Auction Centre

Should you require assistance getting your items to our auction rooms, we will advise you on the most appropriate means of delivery. We are happy to organise carriage on your behalf.

Keeping You Informed

With regard to your lots consigned to our catalogued auctions, we will emailyou prior to the auction giving you full sale details and descriptions of your entries.

Marketing Your Lots

We take pride in the quality and accuracy of our cataloguing. Our catalogue isemailed to thousands of specialist buyersand is alsomarketed onlinevia leading auction websites designed to bring auctioneers and buyers together.

When You Can Expect Payment

After your goods have sold successfully, a sale result notificationwill usually be emailed or postedto you within 10days of the auction. Payment is made via BACS.

Terms and Conditions of Acceptance

Our Charges

There is a standard lotting fee of £3.00 per lot in weekly auctions. (Inclusive of vat).

Seller’s commission is charged on the Hammer Price of individual lots at 20%. (Inclusive of vat).

The VAT Margin Scheme allows the Auctioneers to sell items without VAT on the Hammer Price. Under this scheme the commission will be shown inclusive of VAT and is not recoverable by the Seller. Books are currently zero-rated therefore there is no VAT on either the Hammer Price or commission.

Safety, Suitability for Sale, Appliance Testing

Goods for sale should be in working order, hygienic and comply with current Health and Safety regulations.

Goodsthat do not comply with current statutory regulations for sale, or considered to be of little or no commercial value, will be disposed of without further reference to the Seller, and at their expense.

Transport
Assistance with packing and transport can be arranged via our usual carriers at a pre-arranged hourly rate.

Storage
The Auctioneers reserve the right to charge £1.00 per lot per day storage fee on uncollected lots after notification, and to subsequently sell these items at their discretion to cover expenses.
