Bombardier Q400 Turboprop Aircraft

Bombardier Q400 Overview:

The Bombardier Q400 is a two engine regional turboprop aircraft built by Bombardier. The Q400 is also known as the De Havilland Canada Dash-8-400. The Bombardier Q400 is assembled in Toronto, Canada at the Toronto Downsview airport and is built under the De Havilland Canada Certificate owned by Bombardier. The Bombardier Q400 is officially called the De Havilland Canada Dash-8-400 and is part of the Q Series (DeHavilland Dash-8 Series) aircraft from Bombardier. Bombardier built the Q400 to fill the needs of the 70 seat regional turboprop market. In 2008 Bombardier released the Bombardier Q400 Nextgen an improved Q400 with a new interior and slightly better performance numbers.

Avionics in the Bombardier Q400 are built/powered by Thales and all data is shown on 5 LCD screens. The Q400 is powered by two producing 5,071 shp in each engine. Connected to the Bombardier Q400’s engines are the 6 blade Dowty R408 propellers with an advanced swept blade design.

The Bombardier Q400 is a one of a kind turboprop aircraft providing fuel efficiency, low emissions, jet like speed, and quiet operation for its operators and passengers. The Bombardier Q400 is one of the most fuel efficient commercial aircraft on the market. Fuel cost per available seat mile (FCASM) is comparable to larger aircraft like the Embraer E-190. The fuel burn of the Bombardier Q400 is also the same as the Bombardier CRJ-200 which only has 50 seats while the Q400 can have up to 74. The Q400 was built with speed in mind, traveling at 415 mph at cruise speed. The Bombardier Q400’s block time under 300 miles is faster than most jets because it reaches cruise speed at 25,000 ft, where a jet will have to climb to 33,000 +- to reach cruise speed. The Q400 is also very quiet inside the cabin and outside. Bombardier built the Q400 with the ANVS Noise suppression system. The ANVS system on the Q400 creates vibrations to counter/match the vibration from the engine and the propeller blades. The Bombardier Q400’s ANVS system cancels out the noise and creates a quieter cabin. This system leads overall to a quiet cabin that is comparable to jet aircraft. Overall the Bombardier Q400 is a very efficient turboprop aircraft with many improvements that allow it to perform like a jet and be efficient like a turboprop
