Is it worth it to buy Amsterdam Pass? ›

Entry fees to Amsterdam's top attractions can add up quickly, and the card eliminates these costs. If you plan on visiting at least three museums or attractions during your stay, the 24-hour card will have paid for itself.

The Amsterdam City Pass not only provides free entrance to the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum and a free canal trip and airport transfer, your pass also includes significant savings on museums and attractions such as the Stedelijk Museum (modern art), the Heineken Experience and bicycle tours and excursions.

The I amsterdam City Card offers a unique way to explore Amsterdam. You get access to all major highlights and more than 70 museums, city-wide public transport, a canal cruise and bicycle rent.

Train travel is not included with the City Card, such as the journey from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol to Amsterdam Central Station.

Go City Amsterdam Pass only includes the popular attractions, but I Amsterdam City Card covers almost all the museums in Amsterdam; if you want to enter places like Artis Royal Zoo, Eye Film Museum, Muiderslot Castle, or other sites, I Amsterdam City Card is your best option.

The cheapest way to travel around Amsterdam is walking, as the city is one of the most walkable in the world. The Dutch National Rail (Nederlandse Spoorwegen) provides a 14-17 minute train ride from Schiphol Airport to Amsterdam Central Station, costing approximately €5.50 per person.

The Go City Pass is worth it for travelers who plan to visit many of a city's top tourist sites. Those who are on their first trip to a new city and want to use public transportation while visiting top attractions will find it well worth it as it'll help cover your costs on almost all of those things!

Be sure to carry cash

In daily life, the Dutch hardly use them. Instead, payments are often made with debit cards.

Train: It is the quickest and cheapest way to get to the city center of Amsterdam. Every day numerous trains depart from the airport and take between 15 and 20 minutes to get to Amsterdam Centraal Station. A one-way ticket is € 4.20 ( US$ 4.60), plus € 1 ( US$ 1.10) for the travel card (Smart Card).

Explore Dutch Museums with a Museum Card

The Museum Card is a personal pass to enter more than 400 Museums in the Netherlands! It is valid one full year and it costs €59.90 (€32.45 up to 18 years of age) + a one time starting fee of €4.95. A cheap way to explore Dutch museums, and every time you wish to!

Tours of Amsterdam's Red Light District are also comparable to those around the rest of the city. However, they can work out as excellent value for money, with entry to museums and other attractions sometimes included in the cost of the tour.

If you're in a big city, you should be fine to use your card in most places. Plus, you can always withdraw cash from an ATM if you need to. But if heading somewhere smaller or more rural, it's always best to have some cash on you.
